You will almost certainly have received special offers by email or by post from a wide range of suppliers which come with a promotion code to be inserted in the appropriate place when you buy the product. Why is this necessary? What happens if I ignore the promotion code?
All suppliers offer special deals from time to time in order to encourage people to buy their products. It is a standard marketing strategy which has been shown to work over a long period. They can make special offers without including a promotion code in the offer so why do you sometimes receive one? An offer without a code means that the offer is available to anyone. An offer with a promotion code means that it is available only to those who know the code.
You may have been selected to receive the code because you are an old or regular customer. They may have found out your details from a marketing campaign and are trying desperately to convert you into a customer. A friend of yours may have referred the supplier to you and you get a special deal as a reward. Whatever the reason, the supplier can use to track which orders were triggered by which marketing activity.A mailshot may contain a specific promotion code. A website may have a different promotion code for exactly the same offer. The marketing people need to evaluate which marketing techniques are working better than others. Promotion codes allow them to track where the orders came from.
A promotion code can lead you to a hotter offer than the general public or it can just be a device to evaluate the marketing activities. The general public may not have access to the same price or extras that you have been offered. You may not be convinced to buy the offer and so the promotion code is of little value to you. If you do rate the service and want to purchase it, then you must take advantage of the promotion code. To not do so means that you may be paying a higher price than you have to. Also, there is generally a time limit on a special offer and additionally a time limit on the promotion code also.
So promotion codes do work. If you are fortunate enough to receive them, then do make sure you take advantage. Discerning bargain hunters and smart buyers will use them whenever they can get their hands on them.
